Description
iMapInvasives is an on-line, GIS-based data management system used to assist citizen scientists and natural resource professionals working to protect our natural resources from the threat of invasive species. This subset of iMapInvasives data includes all confirmed invasive plant records from New York State with permission to distribute, including historical records. The majority of the records are based on exact observation information, but approximately 1,000 records are checklist data, without observation dates.

Title | iMapInvasives - NatureServe - New York |
---|---|
Funding | The New York Natural Heritage Program (NYNHP) is a partnership between the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) and The State University of New York's School of Environmental Science and Forestry. The overall website and internet mapping components for the iMapInvasives Project are developed and hosted by the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center (FREAC) at the Florida State University. |
Study Area Description | Data is contributed by a large number and variety of sources from federal agencies to individual citizen scientists. Our largest contributors of NY data include: New York PRISMs (Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management); New York Flora Association; Brooklyn Botanic Garden; New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; New York City Department of Parks and Recreation; New York Natural Heritage Program; and New York/New Jersey Trail Conference. |

Sampling Methods
Sampling procedures vary with each contributing dataset.
Study Extent | Study extent (temporal and frequency of occurrence) varies with each contributing dataset. |
---|---|
Quality Control | QA/QC requirements for individual datasets vary according to the contributor. Bulk data sets from partner organizations are readily incorporated by the iMapInvasives Information Manager as it is assumed the contributor has conducted an internal QA/QC process. iMapInvasives users entering their own data are strongly encouraged to include photos for verification, and records with insufficient data to verify are not included in this set. Outliers and difficult-to-ID species are vetted by experts before being approved for inclusion. |
