Project Data
No Description available
Title | USGS BISON team - images and videos |
---|---|
Funding | in kind support from US Geological Survey. |
Study Area Description | Areas visited by personnel from the BISON and ITIS projects, generally natural areas or urban/suburban parks and roadways. |
Design Description | Choose organisms that can be identified from photographic or video images, take photos and latitude, longitude, elevation. |
The personnel involved in the project:
- Principal Investigator
Sampling Methods
Preferred data method includes use of a camera with GIS and elevation estimating ability. Individuals for each species are at least 10 meters apart.
Study Extent | Study extent is opportunistic and arbitrary and determined by convenience and likelihood of species being available. |
---|---|
Quality Control | Gerald Guala provides the main identification services, supplemented by experts at the Smithsonian Institution as needed. |
Method step description:
- Images are photographed as they are spotted. Observations are not recorded unless a photo or video voucher is provided. Taxa are identified to the most specific level possible from the details available in the voucher images.
Additional Metadata
Purpose | Data has been collected specifically to add taxon information with supporting voucher images to the BISON mapping project. |
