Description
Horseshoe crab populations in Long Island Sound have been studied for the past 20 years as part of Project Limulus, a citizen science project that trains volunteers to collect basic data and tag horseshoe crabs during the spring mating season. We at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk have been assisting with Project Limulus for many years, training volunteers and leading tagging nights at our local beach. We have a dedicated group of experienced volunteers that we'd love to continue collecting data outside of the few tagging nights each season. As such we have developed Project Horseshoe using the anecdata platform so volunteers can report horseshoe crab sightings year round. About this project Long Island Sound project for trained citizen scientists to report horseshoe crab sitings. Project goal The goal of this program is to continue to collect data on horseshoe crabs presence in the Long Island Sound What participants do: Photograph horseshoe crabs observed in Long Island Sound

Anecdata is a free online citizen science platform developed by the Community Lab at the MDI Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. Anecdata is used by hundreds of individuals and organizations to gather and access citizen science observations and provides a platform to easily collect, manage, and share their citizen science data. How Anecdata works: Project managers create projects, creating datasheets that participants fill out to share their observations. Participants join projects and use the Anecdata website or mobile app to share their observations with the project. Project data is now available for anyone to view and download!
