說明

This dataset contains georeferenced field observations of North American red squirrels (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus, taxonomic serial number TSN 180166) collected in Interior Alaska during 2020–2021. Records include multi-year observations of squirrel presence, habitat descriptions, squirrel midden detections, visual and acoustic detection methods, geographic coordinates, and timestamps obtained during opportunistic field surveys. The dataset contributes to regional biodiversity monitoring and published research and is part of a larger research effort by the authors to study squirrel conservation and management in Alaska and beyond. In addition to ongoing research, it can support ecological studies on species distribution, habitat use, and ecosystem health in Interior Alaska.

取樣方法

Data were collected through opportunistic field observations by the authors for thesis-related research during field activities in Interior Alaska. Observers recorded squirrel presence and related ecological information (e.g., middens), including habitat descriptions, location and time details, and detection methods (e.g., visual sightings, auditory detections – calls, as well as some tracks). Geographic coordinates were recorded for each observation using a hand-held GPS tracker in WGS84 to enable spatial analysis and mapping. The dataset was standardized and formatted according to Darwin Core biodiversity data standards prior to publication through GBIF.

研究範圍 Field observations were collected across boreal forest habitats in Interior Alaska.
品質控管 All records were reviewed for coordinate completeness and species identification prior to publication. Geographic coordinates and taxonomic names were checked and standardized to align with Darwin Core biodiversity data standards used by GBIF
